Domino Run! Sight Word Game

Your students will LOVE practicing sight words with this fun game! Simply put alphabet stickers on blank dominos and print off the checklists! This includes 2 sight word lists depending on ability.

Students spell sight words by building domino tracks. Students check off sight words as they spell each word. Once they spell all of their words the push a domino down and watch them fall! You can get great wooden dominos here.

Just Roll With It! Sight Word Activities for Fast Finishers & Sight Word Linky Party!

Prepping for centers each week can get exhausting! I often place choice buckets out for fast finishers on top of the 4 literacy centers I made each day. I've been looking for fun ways for my students to review sight words that also cuts down on some of the prep that goes into planning for each week. I made this center to give students engaging ways to learn and spell sight words and also to help teachers by giving a prep-free center to use all year long. Yes, I said ALL year long! Hellloooo sanity saver! Here's how it works...

First I printed the poster(above) and laminated it. Each week I simply write the sight word(s) we are focusing on and ta-da!

When you first set-up this center you'll need the following materials:
colored pencils
letter beads
pipe cleaners
magnet letters
play-doh
paint

I place all of the items in a bin along with the dice. Students bring the bin to a table and roll the dice...

If students roll 'Rainbow Write It" they use the colored pencils to rainbow write the sight words. I included recording paper.

If students roll "Bead It" they use the letter beads to string the sight word. They can do this several times or even make a bracelet out of it if you have enough beads for students to take home.

If students roll "Build It" they build the sight word with letter magnets or letter cubes.

If students roll "Construct It" they construct the sight word with pipe cleaners.

If students roll "Make It" they make the sight word out of Play-Doh.

And everyone's favorite... If students roll "Paint It" they paint the sight words. I like the paint markers because they tend to be less messy! You can get them HERE. I also included the recording paper for this.

Journey's Kindergarten Interactive Notebook

Incase you've never seen my Teachers Pay Teacher's store, I use the Journey's Reading Program in my classroom. My store is FILLED with tons of activities aligned with the Kindergarten Journey's program. Although the skills are most likely similar to those taught through other programs, I find it useful to have everything in sequential order to make planning and preparing for each week MUCH easier.

Interactive notebooks are such a great way for me to easily maintain accurate records of my student's abilities without having to file on a daily basis (or be organized, which I'm terrible at). I'm able to go back an refer to the interactive notebook to show progress throughout the school year. It can also be used as a reference tool for my students if they need to go back and review information.

My favorite aspect about interactive notebooks is that my students are able to go back and look at the amazing progress they've made throughout the year. There is nothing more encouraging to a struggling child than to look back at their September activities in their notebook. I remind my students that even if the current task seems difficult at the moment, they will ultimately master the given skill as they did many other skills in the past.

Parents love interactive notebooks, too! They enjoy seeing their child's work at back-to-school night or conferences. It is a great way to show parents what their child has been working on in school without overcrowding their take-home folders with worksheets!

Below, I added just a few of the activities included in my Journey's Kindergarten Interactive Notebook. Each lesson is given a 3 focus skills. 1. Letter/Sound identification 2. Sight Word Activities and 3. Phonemic Awareness. I've seen these activities used as morning work or during literacy centers. Either way, it's a great way to reinforce important skills taught throughout the Journey's Reading Program.

Implementing Technology Using QR Codes in my Kindergarten Classroom!

Let's face it... Our students LOVE tablets, iPads, iPods, basically anything involving technology. It is an important part of our schools today and it is more important than ever that we teach our students how to use technology in their day-to-day lives. I designed these QR Sight Word Activities as a way to reinforce important literacy skills while also highlighting technology skills. I use project boards and rubber cement to make a center area.

Students use my iPod Touch to scan the QR codes. I was supervised at how easily they learned to use it! They're pros now! :)

 Download HERE

This center is a BIG favorite! Students scan the QR codes, listen to the sight word, and then match the sight word to the correct puzzle piece. It works great for fast finishers!
